Dangme Bihii Akpe (DBA) started as Dangme Union UK and Ireland about November 1982. The idea was first muttered to start as an organisation to cater for the welfare of the ‘Dangmes’ (people from the Dangme district of Ghana) in UK.
The first meeting was held at Micheal Doku’s house in Willesdon and present were: George Aggudey Michael Doku, Paul Donor, Samuel Sorgbodjor, Grace Olympio, Florence Aggudey, Adjoa Boateng and Sackitey.
Today, through it’s transformation and political journey was re-birthed into the association, we have to meet the needs and challenges that affected ‘Dangme’ people in the UK, at home in Ghana and ultimately in the diaspora.
Membership is open to all ‘Dangme’ people or individuals of ‘Dangme’ descent, their spouses and children and others with a ‘Dangme’ connection such as residency over considerable period.
Over the years we have particularly embarked on assistance in improvement in the education and health arenas, and without doubt, had brought about significant awareness and changes and added value to education and health in the ‘Dangme’ districts.

Once a year, we organise a function to raise money towards assisting the most unfortunate people in our society. Our latest project was channelled towards MENTAL HEALTH CHALLENGES. This area was often referred to as the ‘Cinderella’ because of the stigma attached to the illness and paucity of services available in the whole country.
We hope to raise as much money as possible to be given to recognised charities and agencies operating in the Dangme Region to facilitate an awareness of the condition and provide assistance towards this.
